In the 18th century, Williamsburg was the capital of Britian's prosperous Virginia colony . This hub of politics, commerce, and culture drew patriots such as George Washington, Patrick Henry, and Thomas Jefferson .
Today, Colonial Williamsburg is a vibrant restored 18th-century community, complete with authentically furnished colonial homes and stores, trade shops and taverns. Hundreds of buildings are spread over 173 acres and include eighty-eight original houses, taverns, shops, and public buildings. You'll see women in colonial dress tending sheep, tradesmen hard at work forging metal or driving braces of oxen and other costumed townpeople recreating the period just prior to the American Revolution.
